12/02/2004
The Department of Family and Community Services today released its profile of labour market and related payments for the previous month. This coincides with the release of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) National Unemployment figure for the same period.
The figures contained in this publication differ from the unemployment figures produced by the ABS. The ABS figures, for example, include many jobseekers who do not receive a benefit.
The publication primarily covers jobseekers receiving Newstart Allowance and Youth Allowance (other) – that is, people who received a payment and are required to search for work.
The number of people receiving Mature Age Allowance, Partner Allowance, Widow Allowance and Youth Allowance as full-time students are also included in the publication.
The figures are broken down by State or Territory and by Centrelink office.
Hard copies can be obtained by subscription from the
Centrelink Knowledge Desk or contact on (02) 6244 7270.
The next issue is scheduled for release on 11 March 2004.
