September 2004 Monthly Profile of Labour Market and Related Payments

22/10/2004

The Department of Family and Community Services (FaCS) today released its profile of labour market and related payments for the previous month.

The figures contained in this publication are different from the unemployment figures produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), as the ABS and FaCS use different methodologies to count unemployed customers.

The publication primarily covers jobseekers receiving Newstart Allowance and Youth Allowance (other) – that is, people who received a payment and are required to search for work.

The number of people receiving Mature Age Allowance, Partner Allowance, Widow Allowance and Youth Allowance as full-time students are also included in the publication.

The figures are broken down by State or Territory and by Centrelink office.

Hard copies can be obtained by subscription from the Centrelink Knowledge Desk (knowledge.desk@centrelink.gov.au) or on (02) 6244 7270.

The next issue is scheduled for release on 26 November 2004.
