Annual Report 2000-2001

Accessibility

FaCS is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities have equal access and opportunity to benefit from our policies, programs and services.

The Annual Report 2000–01 includes a report on FaCS’ performance against the Commonwealth Disability Strategy framework launched in October 2000, and identifies a number of areas for priority improvement.

FaCS has made a commitment to improve the accessibility of its electronic and non-electronic information products.

In line with this commitment, the online Annual Report 2000–01 aims to be accessible to the largest possible audience. FaCS set out to demonstrate that an attractive online publication could also achieve the highest standards in accessibility for:

FaCS contracted Vision Australia Foundation to provide web accessibility advice and guidance throughout the development of the online Annual Report 2000–01.

With their assistance the Annual Report was progressively tested for accessibility and specific strategies put in place to rectify and avoid any difficulties. For example, text descriptions were written for all photographs, figures, charts and graphs within the report. Where various online design options were presented the most accessible approach was always taken.

Accessibility features of the Annual Report include the provision for users to adjust the text sizes and colours to suit their personal preferences and requirements, however in some circumstances these changes cause parts of the page to distort. To this end, and to assist navigation on long pages, we have repeated the left-hand navigation items at the bottom of all pages after the welcome page.

The audited Financial Statements for 2000–01 are only available here as image files. If you would like further information or access to the audited Financial Statements in another format please email facs.internet@facsia.gov.au.

With the help of Vision Australia Foundation, FaCS has achieved a Double-A conformance level with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 for our online Annual Report 2000–01. This rating will be used as a benchmark for future online publishing of FaCS information and is a significant step toward achieving our goals.
