Dynamic Entry Point
The Department of Family and Community Services (FaCS), which includes the Child Support Agency, aims to achieve a fair and cohesive Australian society.
FaCS is working to help families, communities and individuals build their self-reliance and make choices through
-
economic and social participation
-
prevention and early intervention
-
a responsive and sustainable safety net
FaCS had expenses of $60 billion in 2002-03 – one-third of total government outlays.
Wide-ranging services
The services we manage or provide are as wide-ranging and diverse as Australian families and communities are themselves:
-
child care
-
families
-
communities
-
housing
-
working-age people
-
disability
-
support for the aged
Developing policy across the life cycle
FaCS recognises that problems affecting people in a phase of their life can often influence what happens to them (and their children) later in life. Longer-term investments are needed and that help is also more effective if governments, businesses, communities and families work in partnership.
A ‘joined-up’ approach
We work in partnership with other Australian government departments, state and territory governments, international governments and our service provider networks.
Making systems simpler
-
for our clients
-
and for us
Supporting the community and FaCS people in times of crisis
-
Bali Tragedy
-
Drought
-
Canberra Bushfires
‘The most enjoyable thing about FaCS is knowing that the work you do impacts on the lives of real people… the past year in particular saw our staff respond to two major crises in a very professional and caring way… I’m privileged to work in a wonderful environment with very talented people.’
Mark Sullivan, Secretary
