The Ministers responsible for the new government's families, housing, community services and Indigenous affairs policies and programs were sworn in by the Governor-General on 3 December 2007.
- The Hon Jenny Macklin MP is the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs
- The Hon Tanya Plibersek MP is the Minister for Housing and the Minister for the Status of Women
- The Hon Bill Shorten MP is the Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children's Services
