National Disability Conference Funding Program
An allocation of funds is provided each year to support national and international disability conferences held within Australia. These funds are administered by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs through the Disability Policy and Coordination Branch.
The funding is for eligible conference organisers to enable them to support the inclusion of people with disability at disability-focused conferences. These funds are provided to conference organisers to:
- assist people with disability, their carers and/or families with costs such as conference registration, accommodation and travel
- facilitate access to the conference for people with disability, their carers and/or families by, for example, funding Auslan interpreters and hearing loops for people who are deaf or hearing impaired; and /or provide materials in alternate formats, and/or note-takers.
The program cannot fund more than 10 per cent of the total conference budget, up to a maximum of $10,000 (plus GST if the organisation is GST registered) for a national conference or $20,000 (plus GST if the organisation is GST registered) for an international conference held in Australia, each financial year.
Conference Funding Assistance is available to successful applicants for one conference only per organisation in any twelve-month period.
Applications for the 2008-09 National Disability Conference Funding round have now closed.
Applications for the 2009-10 National Disability Conference Funding round will be advertised in March / April 2009.
