Extra Support for Children with Disability Program Outside School Hours Care
The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) recently held an Expression of Interest to fund organisations to provide outside school hours and vacation care for children with disability aged 12-18 years under the Extra Support for Children with Disability Program.
What does this program do?
This program assists children with disability and their families by funding services to deliver appropriate and flexible outside school hours and vacation care. A particular focus of this program is to increase access for children and teenagers with disability aged 12-18 years.The Australian Government has committed $23.6 million to this initiative over five years (from 2007 to 2012).
How will the program help?
The needs of children and teenagers with disability are often not appropriately met in the mainstream outside school hours and vacation care environment. This is particularly true for the 12-18 year age group, as mainstream outside school hours care services often only cater for primary school aged children.This program will increase access to outside school hours and vacation care for this group, with a focus on providing stimulating and age-appropriate developmental, social and recreational activities for children and teenagers with disability.
Who will benefit from this program?
This program will support:- children and teenagers with disability to access quality outside school hours and vacation care services that are appropriate to their needs and
- parents and carers of children with disability to participate or increase their opportunities in the paid workforce.
How will the program be delivered?
