International Day of People with Disability
International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) was established in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote awareness of disability issues and the abilities of people with disability. It is celebrated worldwide on 3 December each year.
The day unites disability organisations, people with disability, businesses, governments and communities in celebrating the achievements of people with disability and aims to promote an understanding of disability issues, and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well being of people with disability.
IDPwD Website
The IDPwD website provides background information on IDPwD and support resources for planning IDPwD events, as well as frequently asked questions and useful links for people looking for more disability information. There is also an online event registration function and a State by State Event Calendar so people wishing to participate in an IDPwD event can find out what's on in their local area. Event registration for IDPwD 2008 will be open from mid 2008.
Organisations that register events will be sent free IDPwD 2008 promotional products and posters to help them promote their event and celebrate on the day.
