Security, Quality Services and Choice for People with Disabilities
In 2004, the Australian Government released the 'Security, Quality Services and Choice for People with Disabilities' package of measures to ensure that people with disabilities in business services will enjoy continued service, choices in their employment and payment of wages in a quality environment.
The package was developed in response to a range of issues recently raised by services, consumers and their representatives about current changes to disability employment services.
The package provides $99 million over four years in flexible assistance for business services and their current employees. This assistance will help services improve their businesses.
The package includes a range of assistance for business services that provides:
- guarantees that no person will be displaced from a service against their will
- assurance that no sole business service in a town or region will close due to the changes to the sector
- assistance to directly address business viability issues, including the impact of wage increases.
- the new case based funding pricing models for both business services and open employment services.
- the wage assessment tool for business services, developed by the Australian Government in consultation with consumer and business peaks, to assist business services determine fair pro-rata wages for employees with disabilities working in a business service.
