The duration of unemployment benefit spells: A comparison of Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons

Policy Research Paper 10 / Thorsten Stromback and Mike Dockery. June 2001

This paper reports the results from an analysis of unemployment amongst persons of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin.

A central theme of the paper is to investigate whether differences in the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can help us understand their relative exclusion from mainstream employment.

Data used in the analysis was obtained from the department's Longitudinal (administrative) Data Set (LDS).
