- Australian Business Number (ABN)
An identifier that businesses and non-profit organisation use in their dealings
with the Australian Tax Office (ATO). This is an 11 digit number.
- Appropriateness (Evaluation)
The extent to which the actual outcomes of the program match government policy, priorities and community need.
- CALD
Individuals or groups from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
- Carer
A person of any age, who without being paid, cares for another person who needs ongoing support because of a mental illness. A carer may or may not be a family member and may or may not live with the person.
- Child
A child is defined for the purpose of this program as a male or female aged between 0 to 15 years.
- COAG
Council of Australian Governments.
- Collaboration
A process defined by the mutual learning between services.
- Community
A social unit with common rights or interests within a larger society.
- Complaint
Any expression of dissatisfaction with a product or service offered or provided.
- Coping skills
The methods a person uses to deal with stressful situations. These may help a person face a situation, take action, and be flexible and persistent in solving problems.
- Department
The Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
- Early intervention
Timely interventions which target people displaying the early signs and symptoms of a mental health problem or a mental illness. Early intervention also encompasses the early identification of people suffering from a mental illness.
- Effective parenting
Parenting behaviour and strategies that create an environment that allows a child to reach its full potential.
- Effectiveness (Evaluation)
The extent to which program outcomes achieve the stated Program objectives or the extent to which actual outcomes match planned outcomes.
- Efficiency (Evaluations)
The extent to which the processes (activities/strategies/operations) used to produce the outputs of the program represents value-for-money.
- Emotional health and wellbeing
- Having the capacity to build positive relationships and cope with the ups and downs of life.
- Being able to realise an individuals full potential.
- Having the opportunity to develop emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.
- Evaluation
A systematic objective assessment of the appropriateness, effectiveness or efficiency of a program and/or part of a program.
- FaHCSIA
The Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
- Family
Two or more people related by blood, marriage, adoption, or fostering who may or may not live together. For some cultures, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, family may also include those classified as ‘extended family’.
- Family functioning
The family system, expectations, beliefs, behaviours and communication style a family has, and the impact this may have on the relationships within the family.
- Freedom of Information
The principle that government activities are open to public scrutiny, as far as is reasonably possible, and permits public access to information held by the Government.
- Funding
Public money given to a service provider delivering the service outlined in the Funding Agreement and includes interest earned on the money.
- Funding Agreement
The legal contract between FaHCSIA and the auspice body/service provider that outlines service delivery, accountability and reporting requirements.
- Funding period
The period of time between the commencement date and the completion date of a project/service.
- Indigenous
Is a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by the community in which he or she lives.
- Intellectual Property
A term that refers to rights resulting from intellectual activity in the industrial, scientific, literary or artistic fields.
- Mental Health
A state of emotional and social wellbeing in which the individual can cope with the normal stresses of life and achieve his or her potential. It includes being able to work productively and contribute to community life.
- Mental illness
Mental illness is a clinically diagnosable disorder that significantly interferes with an individual's cognitive, emotional or social abilities.
- Not for profit
An organisation where any profits generated are returned to further the work of the organisation, and not paid out to individuals or shareholders.
- Outcomes
All the impacts or consequences of the program as a result of its outputs.
- Outputs
The products or services which are produced and delivered by a project.
- Participant
An individual who is involved in or directly benefits from the activities conducted by the project.
- Performance Indicators
A set of measurements designed to measure outputs and outcomes. Performance indicators can be made up of price, quantity, quality and, depending on delivery, funding criteria.
- Prevention
Interventions that occur before the initial onset of a disorder.
- Processes
The methods used to produce and deliver outputs.
- Program Guidelines
A set of directions for the administration and delivery of the program.
- Program Outcomes
The result or impact of a program on program participants and the community.
- Recovery
A deeply personal unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills and/or roles. It is a way of living a satisfying, hopeful and contributing life even with the limitations caused by illness. Recovery includes the development of new meaning and purpose as the person grows beyond the effects of mental illness.
- Resilience
Capacities within a person that promote positive outcomes, such as mental health and wellbeing, and provide protection from factors that might otherwise place that person at risk of adverse health outcomes. Factors that contribute to resilience include personal coping skills and strategies for dealing with adversity, such as problem-solving, good communication and social skills, optimistic thinking, and help-seeking.
- Strengthen families
Supporting families to create and maintain a nurturing family environment. Support might include treating parental dysfunction, teaching anger management, coping skills, and strategies to parent children in positive ways.
- Target Group
The target group is a group of people with particular characteristics that a program/project seeks to assist.
- Young person
A young person is defined for the purpose of this program as a male or female aged between 16 to 24 years.
