National Disability Advocacy Program Review update

A review of the Advocacy Program is underway to ensure that the $12 million that FaCSIA invests in Advocacy is being targeted to people with disability in greatest need and is being delivered efficiently and effectively. There is no intention to reduce the level of funding nationally. It is important however to make sure the limited bucket of money is used wisely. Some of the current challenges facing the program include:

The review of the program will propose options to address these and other challenges. While addressing some of these challenges will be difficult, they are important to ensure that people with disability get the best possible advocacy services.

Industry Days and Trade Fairs Sponsorship Program

The Industry Days and Trade Fairs Sponsorship Program provides financial assistance to help business services participate in or attend business events to support the positioning of their business in the market, industry and community.

The program is open to all FaCSIA-funded business services, with priority given to small to medium business services (defined as those employing less than 100 supported employees) from regional and remote locations. Applicants must provide evidence of attendance at, or participation in, a commercial and recognised Trade Fair or Industry Day that takes place during the 2006 or 2007 calendar year. Funding of up to $2,000 per grant is available to successful applicants. Expenses incurred prior to approval will not be considered for reimbursement. The program closes on 30 June 2007.

This Program is not intended to provide assistance or support for attendance at training activities, networking events, conferences, business site visits or tours of operations.

The Application Form is available on the Literature tab of FOFMS (the FaCSIA Online Funding Management System), or by contacting Rosemarie Gec on (07) 3005 6123 (email: rosemarie.gec@facsia.gov.au).

Cross Sector Initiatives Program

Grants of up to $75,000 are available to help business services:

Funding is open to organisations or groups that include at least one FaCSIA-funded business service, which must be the lead organisation or principle sponsor of the project; individual business services are not eligible to apply. It should be noted that the funding is intended to assist business services groups to explore business arrangements and help them to build relationships - it is not intended to duplicate funding given under the Full Capability Review process. Purchaser/provider commercial relationships are outside of the funding and will not be considered.

Applications for funding close on 30 June 2007. Approval of applications is a Ministerial discretion.

The Application Form is available on FOFMS (on the Literature tab), or by contacting Rosemarie Gec on (07) 3005 6123 (email: rosemarie.gec@facsia.gov.au).

Case Based Funding for Supported Employment Services Major Review

Work on a Review of Case Based Funding for Supported Employment Services has begun.

Broadly, the Review will examine the efficiency and effectiveness of the case based funding model and the impact it has had on employment outcomes for people with profound and/or severe disabilities. Areas of focus include how the funding model has operated in rural and remote Australia, for workers who need high levels of support, and for those wanting to access training and other forms of employment.

A series of discussion papers is being prepared and consultations will be held over the next few months.

The Review is due to be completed by October, so keep an eye out in Disability e-news for progress on the Review.

Should you have any questions regarding the Review, please contact Annabell Pearson on 07 3005 6102 or by email to annabell.pearson@facsia.gov.au
